Sergio Ramos criticized Cesc Fabregas for not playing Spain’s Euro qualifier

Cesc Fabregas has come out and told Sergio Ramos to speak to him face-to-face after the Spanish defender questioned the Chelsea midfielder’s commitment to the Spain national team. Spain’s medical staff had ruled out Fabregas for the Euro qualifier, but he made a comeback in the EPL against West Brom over the weekend.

Ramos had criticized both Fabregas and Diego Costa for shunning their international duties after they did not play against Belarus in Spain’s Euro 2016 qualifier. Both were ruled out due to hamstring injuries but they

Ramos had earlier said: “Laying out rules is difficult. Often with injuries there can be a world of difference between what we have and what is said in public.

“Above all I would have liked the players to show the same commitment to the national team as they do to their club. You must communicate this commitment and spirit to all the new players.”

I was offended by Ramos’ comments: Fabregas

Fabregas responded to Ramos’ comments on a Spanish radio show. He said: “I told Ramos at the time that if he has something to say to me then he should pick up the phone and call and not send messages via the media.

“Yes, I felt offended, and told Sergio how I felt. We eventually spoke on the phone and all is fine. It really irked me that my level of compromise was doubted. I’ve played many times and been involved in call-ups without playing,” he added.

“I’ve played 94 games for Spain over the past nine years and have always shown up. Always and always in good faith. I had tendinitis in my left hamstring,” he explained.

Fabregas compares injury to one Luka Modric suffered

Fabregas also referred to Luka Modric’s injury and mentioned that he would have suffered a similar injury had he played with a hamstring injury.

“If I played I could have ended up with an injury not to dissimilar to that of Modric.

“I spoke with Del Bosque and all was fine. He’s an ex-player and used to these situations,” he concluded.
