Both Manchester clubs beat German opposition 2-1 to earn their first points in the Champions League. Cristiano Ronaldo was once again in top form as he scored the 500th goal of his career in Real Madrid’s 2-0 win over Malmoe.
Cristiano Ronaldo got back to scoring as he got his name on the scoresheet within half-an-hour of Real Madrid’s match against Malmoe when an Isco through ball found the Portuguese in acres of space in the penalty area.
Victor Yotun was sent off in the 78th minute and when the Portugal captain doubled his team's tally in extra time, Malmoe knew the game was up.
Machester United got off to the worst possible start conceding as early as the fourth minute when a sweeping move from Wolfsburg was finished off by Daniel Caligiuri. United responded by creating two great opportunities of their own but failed to convert their opportunities. It was eventually Juan Mata who got United level from a spot kick.
United finally win
Mata was at it again as he flicked the ball into the box, after Wolfsburg had cleared a corner, and the ball was toe-poked in by an onrushing Smalling. Wolfsburg kept on attacking but United’s defense held firm to earn the Manchester side their first points in the Champions League.
In Madrid, Atletico took the lead through Angel Correa in the 23rd minute against Benfica, but the Portuguese giants leveled things up though Nicolas Gaitan. Goncalo Guedes took just five minutes in the second half to give Benfica the lead, a lead they went on to hold for the remainder of the game.
Serge Aurier opened the scoring for Paris Saint-Germain in the 23rd minute before David Luiz doubled the lead as he fumbled the ball into the net. Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored in the 90th minute to make the scoreline an impressive one for the French side.
CSKA stun PSV
CSKA Moscow took a 3-0 lead in the first half thanks to a Seydou Doumbia brace after Ahmed Musa had opened the scoring early in the half. Doumbia had a great chance to score a his third but he was unable to convert his penalty. PSV got back into a game through an eight-minute brace from Maxime Lestienne, but it proved to be in vain as the Russian side ran out 3-2 winners.
In Group D, hero from Gameweek 1, Alvaro Morata was at it again as Juventus took the lead just before half-time against Sevilla. Simone Zaza doubled the lead with three minutes left on the clock to keep the Italians on the top of the group.
Manchester City were made to work hard for their first win after coming from a goal down against German side Borussia Moenchengladbach. Raffael had a great chance to open the scoring in the 20th minute from the penalty spot but the 30-year-old’s shot was saved by Joe Hart. Moenchengladbach did take the lead Lars Stindl before Nicolas Otamendi, who had given away the first penalty, equalized for the Citizens.
Sergio Aguero scored a 90th minute penalty to give the Manchester side the three points that they so dearly craved.
