Chelsea could miss out on Champions League

I am writing this post this morning because it’s time to wise up to what’s happening at the moment. Before I say anything, I urge you all to look at the current Premier League table and you will see what the rest of this post is referring to.

After the woeful performance, team selection and substitutions from “our manager” once again on Saturday at Southampton, Chelsea sit in fourth place in the Premier League table with a game in hand on Tottenham but only two points above Arsenal, who also have a game in hand. In addition, Everton sit just FOUR points behind us and are waiting to pounce on any slip ups.

It’s time to be realistic and face the fact that we could miss out on the top four altogether this season. If that happens, how would you feel about that and what would it mean for the clubs future?

Chelsea’s remaining fixtures are as follows:

Sunderland (h)Fulham (a)Liverpool (a)Swansea (h)Manchester United (h)Aston Villa (a)Everton (h)

Tottenham (h) – To be rearranged due to FA Cup semi final

You could say that we have our destiny in our own hands with the likes of Tottenham, United and Everton all to come to Stamford Bridge as far as the top four finish goes but with our Jekyll and Hyde performances under Benitez, you can never tell these days what Chelsea team is going to turn up.

What worries me the most is the fact that no matter what, we should never be in this position in the first place! It’s all well and good Benitez talking up challenging for second place before Southampton, being just four points behind City, but “his” Chelsea team needed to deliver and they didn’t. The players are as much to blame as the manager but once again, the manager had a chance to change things around and waited too long on Saturday and made the wrong decisions.

Someone tell me that bringing on Yossi Benayoun when you are 2-1 down to Southampton and chasing the game is the answer when Demba Ba is left on the bench?

Under Rafa, Chelsea have lost 23 points in games we have either lost or drawn. Southampton have taken four points from us this season. So someone tell me that’s acceptable. Other managers have been sacked for less at this club! The only reason he hasn’t been is because of where we are in the season.

For me, I question Rafa’s dedication to Chelsea finishing in the top four. Let’s face it, he is leaving Chelsea no matter what at the end of the season. To win nothing but to finish in the top four would look OK on his CV, wouldn’t it? However, to win the FA Cup or Europa League would add to the trophies he keeps referring to on his CV and personally, would look better for him.

Rafa Benitez has had chances to change things in games and continues to make the wrong changes too late and it has cost us. Chelsea shouldn’t be worrying about finishing in the top four at the moment as we should be well clear of the likes of Tottenham and the Arsenal.

With dodgy trips away from home in addition to tough big games at home in the Premier League with the FA Cup and Europa League to also contend with, I question the priorities Rafa Benitez will have.

At the end of the day for him, what looks better on his CV?

It’s time to face facts. Chelsea could miss out on the top four for the second season running and if that happens, do you think Jose Mourinho would want to come back? Do you think certain players will want to stay?

It’s a very real concern and for me winning the FA Cup and/or the Europa League is NOT the priority for the clubs future. We must finish inside the top four as the be all and end all.

Someone tell Rafa Benitez that!

Carefree & KTBFFH!
