Chelsea defender John Terry sidelined for the rest of the season

An injured John Terry of Chelsea leaves the field with medical staff in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League semi-finals against Atletico Madrid

Chelsea veteran defender John Terry will miss the remaining games of the season after he suffered an injury during the Champions League semi final tie against Atletico Madrid.

Terry, who had a good game in a defensive perspective, was taken off in the 72nd minute after he was stomped on the feet by Diego Costa. The 33 year old tried to carry on but couldn’t as he was replaced by Andre Schurrle.

The match ended in a 0-0 stalemate as both sides were unable to find the back of the net. Jose Mourinho confirmed in his post-match interview of missing his star defender for the remainder of the season. ” We have to play in the final for him to play with us,” he said.

Goalkeeper Peter Cech had already been ruled out for the season’s remainder after he made an awkward landing on his shoulder while defending a set piece in the first half. The Czech international was taken off and he was replaced by second choice goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer.

“Petr Cech’s season is over. Don’t ask me technically, but season over,” said Mourinho.

Chelsea travel to Anfield to play league leaders Liverpool on this Sunday. With five points behind and deprived of two important figures, it will be a tough task ahead for the Chelsea back-line in the absence of their leader.

The return leg against Atletico will be played on Wednesday, 30th of April, at Stamford Bridge.
