Vincent Kompany believes Chelsea were by far the best team in England last season

London, July 31 Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany said that Chelsea played attractive football and deserved to clinch the 2014-15 English Premier League (EPL) title.

"Chelsea were the best team in England by far last season. They played attractive football against the teams they knew they could afford to play attractive football against," the 29-year old defender was quoted as saying by the Dailymail on Thursday. "In matches they knew would be harder, they were very efficient. There's an art to that you have to respect.“

The Sky Blues skipper felt a lack of good performances at home were to blame for City’s inability to defend the title rather than a lack of motivation.

“We wanted it just as much as we did the year before. We have to be more consistent. Our home form was our strength in the seasons we won the title, but last season it let us down," Kompany said.

In last season's Manchester derbies, City lost 2-4 against United at Old Trafford in April, having beaten Louis van Gaal's men 1-0 in November. Kompany said that he wants to improve on that in the 2015/16 season.

"I've got personal reasons why I want to win those (Manchester derby) matches. I hate losing derbies, but you don't play those types of game and win them all. It just doesn't happen," Belgium captain Kompany said.
