Tyrone Mings might not be a household name in world football yet, but the young defender is surely turning heads of scouts across England. Currently plying his trade in the Championship for Ipswich Town as a left back, the 6’3” youngster has been spotted by Chelsea as a long term replacement for John Terry, according to reports.

Chelsea will soon need to replace the 34-year old Terry, who has been the bedrock of the Chelsea defence in the last decade. Mings, who is thought of as a future centre-half, has been extensively scouted by Jose Mourinho’s team with a view of bedding him into Terry’s role in the future.

Chelsea have been linked in recent times with the likes of Gerard Pique and Raphael Varane, but many in and around West London believe that the Blues have their eyes on Mings to become the long-term cornerstone of the Chelsea defence once the curtains on Terry’s illustrious career come down.

Mings is another product of the famous Southmapton academy; but was released in 2009, when the youth budget was axed. The 21-year old really began to come to the fore last season, putting in 16 appearances for the Tractor boys.

With the transfer of Aaron Cresswell to West Ham completed earlier this summer, Mings has really been able to make the left-back spot his own in the Ipswich line-up. The former Southampton youth product was in fact the subject of a £3 million pound bid from Crystal Palace on deadline day, which was rejected by Ipswich.

Mings is currently one of the hottest young prospects in English football, with clubs like Manchester United, Arsenal, Everton and Newcastle keeping regular tabs on the youngster.
