Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho says individual glory is not a very big deal for his players

Jose Mourinho says his players at Chelsea don’t care about individual honours

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has said that there is no place for egos within his team. The Blues have been in red-hot form this season, as they have won 11 out of the 14 games that they have played thus far and find themselves on top of the table with 36 points to their name. Their next game is against Newcastle United at St. James’ Park on Saturday.

When asked if his players need to be applauded even more for their performances so far, the 51-year-old Portuguese said that the good thing about the squad is that they are not too much concerned about individual praise.

“I think a good quality of our team is that we don’t care about it (individual praise), ” Mourinho said in an interview.

“We just care about the team, about the result, about the table, about our collective ambition. We don’t have space for selfish people, we don’t have space for egocentric people, we don’t have space for people who think more about themselves than the team. I think this is a great quality for us,” the former Real Madrid manager said.

Individual awards not a big thing for this team

Mourinho said that while getting individual awards is something to feel happy about, it is not as big a deal for his players.

“Obviously we like very, very much to have someone voted player of the month or have somebody score the goal of the week – these little things that for some are big things but for us are small things.

What we want is to win matches, play well, make people realise that we play not just to get a result but to reach a certain level of quality of our game.” He added.
