Chelsea were statistically brilliant in their win against Crystal Palace

Chelsea were superb in their win against Crystal Palace on Saturday

Chelsea have been spectacular this year, having been unbeaten in their first 8 games, and winning 7 of them. Their dominance continued on Saturday as they beat Crystal Palace 2-1 away from home and the match saw a few records broken by them.

Statistics indicated that they made 751 passes on Saturday – with an 89% completion rate – and that is a Premier League record. No team has made more passes away from home since the league’s inception in 1992. Chelsea also enjoyed 72 % of the possession, which is the highest share of possesion of the ball they have had all season.

Cesc Fabregas scored his first goal in a Chelsea shirt, and he was the 10th different player to score for Chelsea this season – more than any other team. Fabregas completed 110 of those passes, with his midfield partner Nemanja Matic not far behind with 103. The duo were involved in the highest and equal second-highest pass combinations too.

The Spaniard made 30 more passes in the second half, even though both teams were playing with 10 men. Fabregas also created 3 chances and had 14 ball recoveries, which was the highest on the pitch that day. Chelsea’s crosses were brilliant too, as half of their six crosses picked out a team-mate, in contrast to 20% of Palace’s 15 balls into the box.

If Chelsea continue to play like this, they will go on to win the title quite easily, and maybe, could also emulate Arsenal’s “invincible season”.
