Antonio Conte’s Chelsea have been looking for a defender this summer and The Sun reports that Chelsea are now preparing to make a £25 million bid Juventus centre-back Georgio Chiellini. The centre-back has previously teamed up with Antonio Conte both in Juventus and the Italian national team most recently.

Conte could play a vital role in luring the defender to the Stamford Bridge outfit.

Chelsea has already made a few formidable signings in N’Golo Kante from Leicester City and Michy Batshuayi from Marseille. Kante has provided depth to the Chelsea midfield while Batshuayi has proven to be a promising youngster.

The club has also been linked with other defenders from the Serie A including Senegalese international Kalidou Koulibaly from Napoli and Leonardo Bonucci from Juventus. However, it looks like Conte has turned to familiar face Chiellini after deals for both players broke down.

Chiellini has been in Juventus for over a decade winning the Scudetto on five occasions while being nominated for the Serie A team of the season on two occasions. His most recent nomination came in 2014-15 when Juventus came close to winning the treble, only to lose out to FC Barcelona 3-1 in the Champions League final where the Catalans won the treble for the second time.

He has also been part of the Italian team that finished second in the 2012 edition of the European Championship.

Chiellini could be joining the likes of Branislav Ivanovic, John Terry and Gary Cahill in defense, all of whom are at least aged 30 or above, which is something that could worry the club. Highly rated youngster Kurt Zouma is looking to make his return to football by the end of the year 2016 which could prove to be a major boost to Chelsea.

The defender suffered a horrific injury last season and has been sidelined until the end of the season.

Conte’s men have won both their games in the Premier League so far in dramatic fashion thanks to two great last minute goals from striker Diego Costa. The Spanish striker was close to a move away from Stamford Bridge with Chelsea chasing former player Romelu Lukaku who now plays for Everton.

However, Everton set a staggering price tag for Lukaku which Chelsea was unwilling to match and hence it looks like Costa will lead the attack at Chelsea Football Club this season.
