Heading back to Stamford Bridge?

In a transfer window that saw many players returning to their former clubs, Chelsea have made a move to re-sign David Luiz according to reports in the United Kingdom. The defender was sold to PSG in 2014 and is said to be keen on returning to the club.

It’s the transfer deadline day and a lot of transfers are set to be completed today. Chelsea were expected to confirm the signing of Marcos Alonso and also sign Marcelo Brozovi from Inter Milan. But little did the Chelsea fans expect to hear this news.

According to Daily Mail, Chelsea made an initial bid of £32 million for the Brazilian and are now awaiting the Ligue 1 club's response to the same. Meanwhile, Sky Sports have also started reporting the same and have taken it one step further by claiming that the player is also keen on moving back to Stamford Bridge. Sky Sports have also reported the fee to be in excess of £30 million.

Chelsea had signed David Luiz from Benfica on the deadline day in January 2011 for €25 million and Nemanja Matic going to the Portuguese club. The defender made 143 apps for the club in his 3½ year stint at the club and became a fan favorite.

Just days before the 2014 World Cup, PSG announced the signing of the David Luiz for £50 million, a world-record transfer fee for a defender. He’s won 9 trophies in his 2 years at Parc des Princes and is now said to be looking for a move away from the club.

ESPN have also chipped with their scoop on this shocking transfer news by claiming that Paris Saint-German are looking to cash-in on the 29-year-old defender. Chelsea’s initial bid has been rejected by PSG according to ESPN but the talks are still going on between the clubs.

Unai Emery reportedly informed the Brazil international that he is no longer guaranteed a starting role as the former Sevilla manager prefers the combination of Thiago Silva and Marquinhos. The duo are expected to start PSG’s next match regardless of David Luiz being at the club or not.

Antonio Conte made it clear to the board that signing a centre-back was top of his priority this summer. With bids for AC Milan’s Alessio Romagnoli and Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly being rejected repeatedly, the London club have decided to look elsewhere.

David Luiz is not the only player Chelsea have attempted to re-sign this summer. Everton striker, Romelu Lukaku was also subject of interest for Chelsea but the Toffees stayed firm and insisted that they would not let go of the Belgian International.
