Colombia’s star striker Radamel Falcao suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury in January this year but reports suggest that he could make it to the World Cup squad.

Although he may not be fit for the start of the World Cup, the surgeon who performed the knee surgery, Jose Carlos Noronha, suggested that the 28-year-old could make it back for the latter stages of the tournament.

“At the highest level, at the beginning of the competition, Falcao may not be 100 per cent,” Noronha said.

“I think he will go to the World Cup.”

Earlier this month, Falcao had come out and said that his recovery was on schedule but did not give a specific date for a return.

The Monaco forward said: “I hope that I can play in the World Cup, but it’s still too soon to be certain.

“I’m a little ahead of what was expected, but we know very well that it’s day to day that we’ll see the evolution. I have the desire and motivation to return.”
