Cristiano Ronaldo: I want to retire at Real Madrid, can play till 40

Cristiano Ronaldo became Real Madrid’s all-time highest ever goalscorer earlier this season.

After picking up the European golden shoe award earlier this week, having scored 48 league goals in 35 games for Los Blancos last season, Ronaldo has insisted that he plans on playing with the Galacticos for another five years or even more.

In September, Ronaldo became Real Madrid's top ever goal scorer and the top ever scorer in the European Champions League. The Portuguese is currently in his seventh season at the Santiago Bernabeu, where he has been nothing but outstanding in the famous white shirt.

“All being well I have a contract here until I'm 33 and as I have said time and again my dream is actually to finish my career here.” he added.

"I want to win more. I still feel good, I feel young," Ronaldo said. " I'm 30 now and I want to play five or six more years, and in these years I want to do well and try and keep the level of recent seasons. I know that it gets harder all the time, but in my head it is possible.

Ronaldo has had some significant injury issues in the past but thanked Madrid's physios when picking up this week's trophy, saying he was very happy with his current physical shape and could play for another full decade.

"At the moment I do not feel any different from when I was 25," Ronaldo said. "Many people say that from 30 you start to drop, but I do not share this idea because if you look after yourself, you train and you do well day to day. You do not grow old overnight, it happens slowly. If you look after yourself, you can reach 40. I have the motivation to keep going."

“I feel good here, I feel useful here and I want that to carry on.”

Ronaldo eyes Euro glory with Portuguese national team

Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo has admitted that he is targetting Euro 2016 glory in France with his national team Portugal, as per the reports on FIFA’s official website. Ronaldo has never won a competition with Portugal and was part of the team who had come agonisingly close when they lost the Euro 2004 final at home.

The 30-year-old has achieved almost everything at the club level with Real Madrid and Manchester United. Ronaldo, who’s regarded as one of the greatest players in football history, has bagged many individual honours including the prestigious Ballon d’Or, thrice.

However, he hasn’t been able to emulate the same glorious charm at international tournaments and has never won a major title with Portugal so far. The Real Madrid icon came close on two occasions. Firstly in Euro 2004 when his side lost out in front of the home fans against the competition’s underdogs Greece. Two years on from the competition, they came close yet again in the 2006 Fifa World Cup in Germany but lost out in the semi-finals to a Zinedine Zidane-inspired team.

Ronaldo has spoken about his desire to achieve something with Portugal at the international level and he’ll be eyeing for glory once again next summer at the 2016 UEFA European Championship in France.

"At club level and on a personal level I've already won everything." Ronaldo said.

"But I haven't won a title with the national team."

"It would be the pinnacle of a great career (winning the European championship) and this is what I'm hoping for.”

“My hope is that 2016 will be the year. We have a good coach and an excellent president and the new generation of younger players coming through has helped us move along."
