Agent says Cristiano Ronaldo will finish his career at Real Madrid

Ronaldo reacts after losing the El Clasico to Barcelona

Rumours about Cristiano Ronaldo making a move from Real Madrid in the near future might have been put to bed by his agent Jorge Mendes, when he confirmed to a journalist that Ronaldo would finish his career at Real Madrid, as per a report on Daily Mirror.

Manchester United fans were given a glimmer of hope of seeing their record-breaking forward return to Old Trafford in the imminent future when manager Louis van Gaal mentioned his interest in bringing Ronaldo to Man United.

There have been numerous reports that suggest Ronaldo's unhappiness with his situation at the ten-time European champions. Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) are reportedly the frontrunners for the 30-year-old's signature.

On being asked if Ronaldo would make a move to Paris, Mendes insisted that the Portuguese star would “end his career at Real Madrid”, to French TV channel Canal Plus.

This will come as a blow to the Manchester United manager, who would have been hoping to strengthen the weakened attacking force at Old Trafford by making a quality buy such as Ronaldo.

Although Real Madrid manager Rafa Benitez has received backing from club president Florentino Perez, it seems like Benitez's days are numbered following the reported falling out between the manager and Ronaldo.

According to reports, Benitez has lost the support of influential players such as Ronaldo, captain Sergio Ramos and James Rodriguez. The forthcoming performances of Real Madrid will be scrutinised carefully in order to make a final decision on Benitez's future.

“Rafa has all our support and confidence. But I cannot say what will happen in the future. No one knows what could happen in six months,” club president Perez said.

Former manager, Carlo Ancelotti is one who could make a potential return to Real Madrid. It is a well-known fact that Ronaldo favours Ancelotti highly and this move could happen in order to keep the Madrid star at the Bernabeu.

With three years left on his contract, Ronaldo would cost a fortune for any club bidding for his signature. However, a hint about where he might move in the future was dropped when he recently purchased a £12m loft apartment in New York.

It remains to be seen how the political situation at Real Madrid pans out. If Benitez continues to be at the helm of things, it could very well force Ronaldo to look at alternate options across Europe.
