He added: "I always said that I have a family to Manchester but I'm good in Madrid. I'm glad of the affection that United fans have for me, it means that I have left good memories."

There have been strong rumours about his return to his former club but Spanish journalist Guillem Balague recently revealed that he would not move before 2016.

The player has made a brilliant start to the season with 14 goals in 10 appearances., including 10 goals in five league matches.

The 29-year-old has not ruled out a return to Manchester and rumours have been fuelled after manager Louis van Gaal refused to rule out a move for him.
