Darren Fletcher: Recent years have been potchmarked with injuries

Darren Fletcher is a doubt for Manchester United’s pre-season tour after it was revealed he may have surgery on a broken toe, according to the Daily Mail.

Fletcher, who registered the highest pass accuracy in the Manchester United squad last season, broke his toe in the last game of the season for United and is eagerly anticipating whether the injury requires an operation or not. The Scotsman will see a speciliast this week and if he is instructed to have an operation, it will rule the central midfielder out of action for up to a month – missing the pre-season tour as a result.

The 30-year-old only recently returned to first-team action at the Red Devils after a lay-off due to a bowel problem. Fletcher suffered from ulcerative colitis and it was a concern that the midfielder may have to end his career due to the problem.

With United willing to offload Fellaini for a loss of £15 million, Fletcher will be needed for next season. Fletcher is eager to get a full pre-season under his belt, but the latest injury is sure to cause problems for the United man.

United club doctors knew Fletcher had suffered a broken toe, but were willing to let the injury heal naturally. However, it has not gone to plan and the recovery period has been lengthened, which has led to concerns surrounding the midfielder.
