Fans urge David Beckham to take on James Bond role in next movie

Fans pressurise Beckham to take on the role of the iconic English Spy 007

If reports are to be believed, former Manchester United and England star David Beckham might soon displace Daniel Craig and play James Bond, as per Mirror. After retiring from professional football in May 2013, the actor has been involved in a series of silver screen projects, most recently in Guy Ritchie’s “The Man From U.N.C.L.E.”

The two have been friends for years and will seemingly prolong their association as the icon has been signed by Ritchie for an unknown part in the epic-King Arthur, starring Charlie Hunnam, Jude Law, Eric Bana and Poppy Delevingne.

The signings thus have reportedly added fuel to the aforementioned speculations that the 40-year-old is indeed contemplating playing the iconic character. While the player has been absolutely charismatic in successfully turning his career from sport to fashion and modeling, this move into mainstream cinema might be one plunge too deep for him.

Even though he remained unavailable for comment, Ritchie, director of popular films like RocknRolla and Sherlock Holmes, placed confidence in his mate, “'I am very aware that many sportsmen and other celebrities have turned their hand to acting and failed,” he said.

“That being said, it is a tough profession, where you need a huge amount of skill and discipline, and I wouldn't want to push myself forward too soon, without learning more about it, and doing a lot more practice. Hopefully, David can do all of that,” he added.

Beckham considering the opportunity

He does indeed have a point as sporting icons like Johnny Weismuller and Herman Brix have donned cult Hollywood roles like Tarzan before. Though in this particular case, Becks might turn to our very own Vijay Amritraj for inspiration, for he appeared in the 13th Bond flick-The Octopussy which was released in 1983.

Beckham recently revealed that he hoped a career on the silver screen is calling. But after fans took to Twitter to urge the former footballer to go from shirt number 7 to 007, the 40-year-old was said to be 'considering' the opportunity to take on the role of James Bond.

The latest foray onto in front of the camera comes just weeks after it was revealed that David will also star in his pal's production of King Arthur. The father-of-four has reportedly signed up for an unknown part in the epic, starring Charlie Hunnam, Jude Law, Eric Bana and Poppy Delevingne.

David and Guy have been friends for years and have already worked together a number of times, including an advert for H&M in 2013 and on a commercial for Beckham's Haig Whiskey.

The world-famous sports star, who has children Brooklyn, 16, Romeo, 13, Cruz, 10, and four-year-old Harper with wife Victoria Beckham, retired from football in May 2013.
