Roberto Carlos believes the youth will take football forward in India

New Delhi:

Delhi Dynamos as an organization firmly believes in innovation and the power of youth. With this, we are delighted to announce our tie up with Subroto Cup Tournament- the country’s biggest and the oldest youth football competition. Delhi Dynamos will act as their ‘Football Development Partner’ which is a part of their Grassroots project in hopes of building a new home for Football in India.

Subroto Cup dates back to 1960s, seen as a simple attempt by Air Marshal Subroto Mukherjee to give football a much larger platform to grow and develop. After the conception of this idea, Subroto Cup has only moved forward with their ideology and is seen as the most famous inter-school tournament in the country.

This year with Delhi Dynamos’ help this tournament will touch greater heights as there will be entries coming in from different countries like South Korea, Sweden, Brazil, Morocco and Ukraine and needless to say, our neighbouring countries like Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka will also compete in this event. Apart from this, the competition will see entries in 3 categories Under-14 (Sub-Junior Boys), Under-17 (Junior Boys and Girls).

The event has seen 103 entries so far, 90 being from Indian schools making it the biggest ever. A press conference announcing the partnership between DD and Subroto was held in New Delhi on 3rd September 2015 and it saw the entire Delhi Dynamos team engaging with the Subroto team and the media.

As a part of the conference, the DD players also had a Skype session with the entire management team of Subroto Cup tournament. Delhi Dynamos’ key player Robin Singh who plays for the Indian National Team said, “Subroto Cup has played an essential role in the building up of my career. Having played in this tournament before, it gives me immense pleasure to be reconnected with it. The development of youth football is of utmost importance in India, and this is exactly what Subroto Cup believes in.”

During the press conference, a Delhi Dynamos Jersey was presented to the Air Commander as a token of appreciation. Delhi Dynamos’ gaffer Roberto Carlos spoke up and commented “To have the participation of the youth in a sport like football adds tremendous potential in a country’s growth. It is only the younger generation who will take forward the sport we all love and hence, I can only hope that our partnership with Subroto Cup will be a colossal success.”

“I am very privileged to bring the DDFC and Subroto Families together to canalize the future of Indian football as the guardians. This partnership comes with a very exhaustive planning in place and DDFC will leave no stone unturned to raise the bar of Subroto Cup. Most importantly we want to ensure a platform to the best players of Subroto who aspire to become international stars. We will be taking them to play in our youth team for our next plans on youth set up.”

Delhi Dynamos president Prashant Agarwal commented. Along with this, Delhi Dynamos also aspires to set up a Youth Team wherein the best 20 players of Subroto Cup will be given proper training to participate in National and International events including the Gothia Cup which is the biggest International Youth Tournament where more than 150 teams participate.
