ISL: Delhi Dynamos put 4 past Chennayin F.C to secure their first win of the campaign

Belgian defender Wim Raymaekers celebrates after scoring the goal in the first minute of the game

Delhi Dynamos registered their first win of the campaign against Chennayin F.C here in New Delhi’s Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. Two first half goals from the Belgian defender Wim Raymaekers and the Danish forward Mats Junker were responded by an accurate freekick by Chennayin’s Elano in the second half.

Eleven Minutes later Delhi Dynamos restored their 2 goal advantage with a succesful penalty converted by Arrias after Shylo was brought down by Harmanjot Khabra. Dos Santos added a fourth for the Delhi side with a tenacious solo effort.

Harm Van Veldhoven’s side started on the front foot as expected and took an early lead when Del Piero spotted Shylo on the edge of the box from the corner flag, who squared it perfectly in the path of an incoming Wim Raymaekers for him to hit the top corner. Materazzi was reasonably angry with the marking in and around the box and the relative ease with which his opponents were allowed to move the ball around.

DDFC had the major share of the possesion albeit some occasional attempts by Elano and Co. to build up some play on the counter attack.

Khabra had a half chance on the 12th minute but his effort was considerably wide of the far post. An unchallenged Steven Dias found himself in some space on the right flank on the 21st minute and delivered a peach of a cross for Junker to head it in and double DDFC's lead. A stunned Chennayin F.C team failed to create any real chances and were continuously threatened on the wings by Steven Dias and Shylo Malsawmtluanga.

The second saw some tactical changes by Materazzi as he brought on Rane and Mendoza for Balwant singh and Djordjic to have an extra attacker on the field. Chennayin intended to attack more and kept on knocking the door. Mendoza came close when he was denied a close shot by the Belgian keeper's long leg. Elano curled in a freekick from the edge of the box after Hans Mulder was booked for a foul on the edge of the box.

Cheered on by their co-owner- Abhishek Bachan, the side from south India looked to gather some momentum but the right wing channel was left open for Dias to run into and do what he does best- Cross! He cut in a low ball for Shyo who was brought down by a back tracking Khabra and the resultant penalty was calmly slotted home by Bruno Herrero Arrias.

Dos Santos came on for Shylo on the 89th min mark and ran past the entire tiring Chennai defense and his deflected shot from close range added the cherry on the cake for Delhi Dynamos.

Final Score: Delhi Dynamos 4 (1’ Raymaekers, 20’ Junker, 79' Herrero (p), 90' Dos Santos) Chennayin FC 1 ( 69’ Elano)
