Angel Di Maria's father says Real Madrid didn't offer sufficient payrise for his son

Angel Di Maria after arriving in Manchester

Miguel Di Maria, Angel Di Maria’s father, has voiced his discontent against Real Madrid for the way they treated his son after he completed his move to Manchester United.

The 26-year-old joined the Premier League outfit for a fee of €75m this week, rejecting a contract extension which had a reported offer of €6m a year.

But Angel’s father pointed out that there was only a pay rise of only €1.5m offered by the Santiago Bernabeu officials and that his son never felt acknowledged by the club.

Talking to El Partido de las 12, he said,"Madrid never offered him €6m. Their ultimate offer was €5m, which represented a €1.5m payrise. The first problems that arose were the result of financial reasons. He joined Madrid for a certain salary and they left it at that.""Angel was never really appreciated at Madrid. It was always as if they didn't want him at the club. They never showed him any affection. "Angel was tired of always having to prove himself over and over again. He had already proven himself. Madrid have lost a key player, someone who could make the difference at any given moment."He is happy at Manchester United now and they treat him well. Their financial offer was also higher than what Madrid had offered," he concluded.Di Maria is United’s third high profile summer signing this season after they brought in Ander Herrera from Athletic Bilbao and Luke Shaw from Southampton.
