Chelsea legend Didier Drogba has been awarded the Barclays Spirit of the Game Award for his charity work in Africa. Drogba’s foundation, The Didier Drogba Foundation, works to improve education and health facilities.

He talked about his humble background and gave reasons why he’s doing his best to help.

"I come from a poor family where I played football in the streets with my friends with no shoes, there was no grass but we still enjoyed it," said Drogba

"There is nothing better than when you see a kid with a smile on his face and that is why I'm trying to help. I want to do a lot of things in Africa, I want to give people the chance to dream, and it is easier to dream when you are in good health and happy."

Drogba, 36, held a charity ball recently which was attended by a host of Premier League players. The event was able to raise £400,000 which will go towards his charity. Apart from these events, Drogba donates all of his commercial and sponsorship earnings to the Foundation.

The money raised will be used to complete the medical clinic and help finance mobile clinics.

The two-time African player of the year winner helped Chelsea ease past Leicester in the Premier League on Tuesday.
