Didier Zokora has more appearances for the Ivory Coast than Didier Drogba

Ivory Coast midfielder Didier Zokora took to Twitter to confirm that he would appear in the purple and orange jersey of FC Pune City in the second edition of the ISL. FC Pune City had earlier tweeted that they would announce their marquee signing on the 30th of July.

Zokora, 34, comes with a wealth of experience behind him having played over 500 matches for various clubs in six different countries during his career. Know as a hard tackling midfielder, he has played in a deeper lying role throughout his career and has excelled in it.

He started his professional career at Mimosas, where he won CAF Super Cup in his only season there. His performances attracted the attention of Belgian club Genk, where the Ivorian went on to spend four years and helped the team lift only their second Jupiter League title.

Zokora moved to the French League with Saint-Etienne before relocating to North London with English Premier League side Tottenham Hotspurs. At Spurs, Zokora was an integral part of the team that ended Spurs’ 9-year trophy drought by winning the League Cup in 2008, a trophy that remains that one won by the North London side.

After spending three years at the club, Zokora moved to Spain with Sevilla where he helped the club regain Champions League status and lift the Copa del Rey. Since 2011, he has been in Turkey playing for Trabzonspor and then Akhisar Belediyespor.

On the International stage, Zokora has made an astonishing 123 appearances for The Elephants in a career spanning 14 years.

Sources close to the club have confirmed that they will have their pre-season abroad.
