Diego Costa completes move to Chelsea from Atletico Madrid

Spain striker Diego Costa joins Chelsea

Chelsea have finally laid to rest to months of speculation and have ratified the worst kept transfer secret of the summer. The Londoners today, officially announced the signing of Diego Costa from Atletico Madrid.

The 25-year-old Spanish international came to the fore last season for Atletico after he was given the role of the main front man following the departure of Radamel Falcao to Monaco.

A flurry of goals ensued from the boots and head of Costa. His performances played a huge part in Atletico Madrid winning the La Liga after a gap of nearly two decades and their appearance in the final of the Champions League. His performances led to admiration from a number of top clubs, with Chelsea and Jose Mourinho leading the way.

The announcement of Costa putting finally putting pen to paper comes around a fortnight after Chelsea had announced that an agreement was in place between the two clubs for the transfer.

Jose Mourinho will be hoping that Diego Costa will be the man to solve the problems for Chelsea up front after none amongst Ba, Torres and Eto’o impressed last season.

Costa will be mainly facing competition from Fernando Torres and the returning Romelu Lukaku. However, he should have the starter’s spot sealed at the beginning of the season.

The transfer represents Mourinho’s second major capture this summer after the special one was able to rope in Cesc Fabregas from Barcelona just before the World Cup.
