Luuk de Jong of PSV Eindhoven celebrates scoring his team’s first goal against Feyenoord

The Hague, Dec 18 Thanks to an injury-time goal, PSV Eindhoven beat Feyenoord 4-3 at the Philips Stadion in Eindhoven to strengthen the lead in the Dutch Eredivisie.

Elvis Manu opened the scoring on behalf of Feyenoord in the 13th minute Wednesday, but PSV striker Luuk de Jong equalised. Both teams had chances to score afterwards with Georginio Wijnaldum (PSV) and Colin Kazim-Richards hitting the crossbar, reports Xinhua.

Three minutes from half-time, Karim El Ahmadi put Feyenoord in front again after a beautiful pass by Jordy Clasie. PSV bounced back in the second half through headers by Luuk de Jong, from a Memphis Depay cross and a Jetro Willems corner respectively.

Colin Kazim-Richards seemed to earn Feyenoord a point with his headed goal in the 89th minute, but Depay secured PSV's victory three minutes in injury-time.

PSV now lead the standings with 40 points from 16 matches, followed by Ajax (36-16) and PEC Zwolle (29-16). Feyenoord (28-16) failed to come closer and stay fourth, before AZ Alkmaar (also 16-28).

"We didn't deserve to lose. Our season is not over yet. We will go for the second place now and see what happens," Feyenoord coach Fred Rutten said.

PSV coach Phillip Cocu reacted: "They were the better side in the first half and we were better in the second. I didn't have the feeling that they would make the 3-3, but they did. Then we scored again, fantastic."

The first half of the Eredivisie season will finish in the forthcoming weekend with the 17th match round. PSV will host Go Ahead Eagles, AFC Ajax play away at Excelsior, PEC Zwolle go to SC Cambuur and Feyenoord to NAC Breda.
