PES 2015: Reviewing the Demo

PES 2015 demo review

The PES 2015 demo is out and before everyone dives into the actual game, we have reviewed the demo version of it, which was only released in Honk Kong after a delay in the European demo release. The European version of it is also out now. The demo version has some major teams in it such as Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Juventus. PES has been a major football gaming franchise that has captivated countless fans all across the globe, a feat only match by its biggest rival, FIFA by EA Sports. Every year, PES improves upon its predecessor and looks to be the best football game in the industry and with PES 2015, they have just raised the bar higher.

Graphics and animations

When it comes to graphics, the demo was spectacular especially when it comes to player movements and player reactions. Even the shadows created by the players on the field are done so well. Arguably, their replays could have been better, but the whole in-game playing time graphics makes up for it. The players look mesmerizing as they look very much like their actual counterparts right down to the hairstyle they are sporting. What makes this point even more commendable is that PES have not used any face-scanning mechanism for the players but instead, an artist has actually hand-drawn them! Very impressive.

The crowd animations in the game were captivating and done realistically, but when it comes to player movements, especially animations when receiving the ball, things didn’t feel as smooth. Plus it lacks fluid attacking runs and movements that users who play FIFA are used to.

Game-play

PES 2015 has a methodical approach to it game and is more balanced when it comes to sprinting which may work wonders during online play. The passing is superb and works smoothly as fight to keep possession. The animation and difficulty of goalkeepers have been improved making it difficult to score although certain set pieces such as corners are easy to take. The corner kick has a unique feature where in, through dotted lines you can direct where you want to send the ball, at which height and can even adjust how much you want the ball to curve.

PES has managed to correctly balance the difficulty levels so all the levels are engaging without being too tough and boring. The game allows for individual selection of a run on player and a 100% manual passing sub option but does not have a secondary player press option when off the ball. It may not feel as fast-paced and action packed as FIFA 2015, but it makes up for it by making players think about their attacks. The pre-game team management menu may look difficult to understand at first, but you will find that it offers a lot more options to players.

PES 2015 gives you more customization options where you can tweak and edit teams and make custom kits, which surely gives career mode in the game more depth and make it much more engaging. The Master League, it’s monetary system and all its other elements are still present. However, by now, the mode feels overdone and does not have a fresh feel to it; they need to improve the physical appearance of that game mode.

Sound

The sounds of the game would probably be PES 2015’s weakest point. The Honk Kong demo version of it had no commentary, which is a fact unacceptable to most football fans. It makes the game boring. The crowds do not have many chants to sing and even sounds like when the ball is kicked or when it hits the post, are not top-notch. The music playlist is restricted and does not boast of many songs, but then, the PES franchise has always been so.

Conclusion- 8/10

All in all, we must understand that this is just a demo and the complete game has so much more to offer. Nonetheless, as far as demos go, it was an awesome experience that gives us a true taste of what to expect from the actual game. With beautiful graphics, animations and awesome game-play, it is a very enjoyable and fun game to play. Watch the trailer below to see what’s in store for you.
