Eden Hazard commits long-term future to Chelsea

Chelsea’s Eden Hazard against Arsenal

Eden Hazard insists he is happy at Chelsea and admits he has no reason to leave the club because he can fulfill his ambition of winning trophies at his current situation. The Belgium international hopes to follow in the footsteps of team-mate Didier Drogba by bringing the Champions League to Stamford Bridge again – admitting his other aim is to one day be named the best payer on the planet.

Real Madrid manager-in-waiting former French International Zinedine Zidane singled Hazard out for praise alongside Cristinao Ronaldo and Lionel Messi earlier this week sparking rumours that the Spanish giants could make a move for the 24-year-old Belgian.

“Why not?” Hazard told Sky Sports when asked if his long-term future was at Chelsea. “I am happy here. I play with big players and the most important thing is I want to win trophies and with this club, it is possible.”

The one trophy that Hazard really wants to get his hands on is the Champions League trophy.

“Champions League is difficult. We play against a big team, but one day I hope I can win this trophy as it is the best. All the big players have won the Champions League and I hope I can bring, like Didier [Drogba] did, the Champions League to Stamford Bridge.”

Hazard a golden boy: Mourinho

Also, Jose Mourinho has laid down a marker for Real Madrid: £200million for Eden Hazard, plus Cristiano Ronaldo or Gareth Bale. The Chelsea manager was speaking ironically and sarcastically. He is convinced that despite Zinedine Zidane’s conscientious wooing of the Premier League’s best player, Hazard will remain at Chelsea in future.

Mourinho said, “‘£100m each leg, because he’s very young.”

He can afford to joke, Hazard signed a five-and-a-half-year contract just two months ago and his manager says he is not concerned despite the fact that Zidane was conspicuously praising Hazard last week.

Hazard’s deal keeps him at the club until 2020. Just as Leo Messi has become the symbol of Barcelona and Ronaldo the personification of Real Madrid, some might see Hazard as ultimately becoming Chelsea’s iconic player.

Mourinho, though, views football differently. He is ill at ease with the type of players who look to negotiate their image rights before their performance bonus. His teams need no symbol, no one individual player above all others.

Mourinho also believes that Hazard will sweep up all individual awards. “He’s a fantastic boy, a fantastic boy. A golden boy. The way he behaves, the way he wants to be, the way he respects people, even the way he respects opponents. I don’t think you can have one opponent who can say, “He insulted me, he made fun of me, he played with his shoulder when he was winning 5-0, he did 20 step-overs in front of me”. Nothing. He doesn’t cheat. He doesn’t dive. Nothing. So I think, even for opponents, I think he’s a fantastic kid.”
