English Premier League signs Chinese cooperation deal

The English Premier League has vowed to help improve the professional game in the country through a formal partnership agreed with the Chinese Super League (CSL) besides helping the game in China at grassroots level through an expanded Premier Skills programme.

In the partnership the English Premier League will provide assistance to the CSL and the Chinese Football Association (CFA) on initiatives, programmes and projects to promote and develop football in China.

The knowledge-sharing agreement means the EPL will give advice to the CSL, its clubs and the CFA on a range of matters including league and club governance, administration and brand building. Through workshops, seminars and study visits, the CSL and its clubs will also learn about commercial development of their competition, stadium operation, PR and supporters’ involvement.

In return, the CSL will provide assistance to the English Premier League and its clubs in promotion and marketing in China, as well as staging matches and other business initiatives in the country.

“These are exciting times for football in China, and this partnership between the Premier League and the China Football Association Super League gives us the opportunity to share our experience and knowledge as we both move forward,” said Richard Scudamore, the Chief Executive of the English Premier League. “We will be providing the CSL with our support and advice on a range of issues, from match-day management and stadium operation through to how we operate on the youth development and community engagement fronts.”

“Equally, we look forward to learning from the CSL how the Premier League and our clubs might best develop in China. I am sure that the agreement we have signed today will lead to a productive relationship between our respective organisations.”

The new formal partnership between the English Premier League and the Chinese Super League is a win-win agreement for both sides with the CSL gaining valuable knowledge, while the EPL gains further entry into the Chinese market.
