"I have enjoyed football more at Chelsea than I have with Spain or Barcelona," says Cesc Fabregas

Chelsea are playing at a top level, and their convincing 0-5 away win against Schalke 04 at the Veltins-Arena is just a testament of that. Since his transfer from Barcelona in the last transfer window, Cesc Fabregas has been more playing at the highest level while donning the Blue shirt.

Fabregas has already bagged 10 assists from 12 appearances in the Premier League as he continues to prove that he is one of the league’s best players. Speaking to Telegraph in an interview, the Spanish International said, “I feel that right now I am playing some of the best football of my career.”

I feel free, I feel confident, I feel in control

“I am in my best position, 100 per cent. I feel more in control of the game, I touch the ball all the time, I feel happy, I go and get the ball from here, from there, I can go forward, Oscar drops deep. I feel free, I feel confident, I feel in control and that’s what I like the most in football,” he adds.

“Sometimes, in the last three or four years in the national team and Barcelona, I was playing like a No 9. I mean, I have to do it for the team and I enjoy, and it’s all good. But, here, where I am playing today, it’s where I enjoy my football the most.”

“Potentially, this team can be very, very good but we have to win trophies. I always said it, no one remembers if there was a great, great team and you don’t win. We have to win and that will say a lot from us. People will judge it how they want to judge it.”

I came here to win trophies

Fabregas was a regular starter at Barcelona, but like many pundits argued, he was playing up to his potential. However, Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has worked wonders with him in the time, allowing him to play in a free role.

“The most important thing is to keep it going and at the end of the season we can talk. I didn’t come here to just play well and that’s it. I came here to win trophies and if I could play well and enjoy myself, the better,” he adds.

“There will be games I cannot enjoy myself because other teams will approach games differently. But the most important thing for me is we know what we are doing, we know when we defend, when we have to attack, when we slow the pace, go quicker. I think right now, we are doing that very, very well.”

Premier League win is a long way to go

Chelsea are on top of the league with eight points clear off second-placed Southampton and stand unbeaten in all competitions. But, Fabregas insists that it is a long way to go, and the team cannot afford complacency at the moment.

“We know people say how great Chelsea is, how good they are playing, how we have won the title, but it is just not happening this way in the dressing room,” he explains. “It’s a long way to go. We have played 12 League games, there are 26 to go – it’s a long, long, long way especially with the Christmas period."

"You play Dec 26, 28, Jan 1. We play Southampton and Tottenham away, you can drop points. Why not? It can happen. We will try not to, we have the squad to cope with it, 100 percent no excuses. But it’s the toughest league in the world. Everyone else is having their holidays. I did the last three years and, trust me, it helps a lot."

“It’s not the same getting into the Champions League knock-out stages after having had 10 days off on holiday, where you can go to Dubai and enjoy yourself by not playing every two or three days in the Premier League. We will have to cope with it. The good thing is we qualified first in the Champions League and now we can concentrate on the matches we have until Jan 1 in the Premier League. That is vital.”
