England international and Tottenham Hotspur regular has signed a new contract extension that will keep him at the club till 2021. The 26-year-old became the latest player to commit their future to White Hart Lane alongside the likes of Christian Eriksen, Harry Winks, Tom Carroll, Eric Dier, Danny Rose and Dele Alli.
Walker joined the club in the year 2009 and since then has continued his progress to cement his place as a first-team regular. The club put out an official statement on social media as well, announcing the new contract. Speaking to Spurs TV, the England defender stated, "It's a great honour. I want to say a big thank you to the chairman and the manager for putting their faith in me.”
The defender described the club as his “second home” and stated how he was enjoying his football under the tutelage of Coach Mauricio Pochettino. Walker is currently one of the senior figures at White Hart Lane and was one of the most consistent performers in the Spurs team last season.
A regular in the England setup
He has established himself as a regular part of the England squad as well and was a part of the squad which was ousted of the Euros 2016 by Iceland. Speaking at an interview on Soccer AM recently, he described the experience as the “lowest moment of my career”. He then went on to describe the disappointment and the feeling of having let down the country and his teammates.
Spurs currently lie second in the table with six games of the season completed and are yet to taste defeat in the league. Their next Premier League game is scheduled against leaders Manchester City.
Pep Guardiola’s side are unbeaten as well and both teams will be in action during midweek. Tottenham will be looking to avenge their 2-1 loss against Monaco in their opening tie as they take on CSKA Moscow away.
Harry Kane’s injury is a big blow for Spurs
Spurs will be missing Harry Kane who could be out for two months. However, the presence of Son along with Vincent Janssen should help the side operate comfortably. At the weekend, Pochettino described the win as a deserved result and praised the collective effort of the team.
Spurs will hope to carry on their weekend form against CSKA Moscow on Tuesday in the Champions League as they look to get out of a group which also consists of sides such as Monaco and Bayer Leverkusen.
