EPL 2016-17: Tottenham vs Liverpool - Predicted starting XI for the Reds

Simon Mignolet
Simon Mignolet should keep his place in the starting XI for Liverpool

Liverpool visit White Hart Lane in the first game of the match week 3 at lunchtime. Spurs are unbeaten in their two games with a win against Crystal Palace and a draw against Everton. The Reds, on the other hand, experienced highs and lows in just the first two games of the season. After the high of beating Arsenal 4-3 at the Emirates, Liverpool paid for their inconsistency as promoted side Burnley beat Jurgen Klopp's men 2-0 at Turf Moor.

The German returns to the ground where he started his Liverpool journey and will look to show how far the Reds have progressed under him. Both Jurgen Klopp and Mauricio Pochettino are regarded as the brightest managers in the league. It remains to be seen which of the two managers outwits the other at their own philosophy.

Liverpool are unbeaten at White Hart Lane since 2012 and have sort of emerged as Spurs' bogey team in recent seasons. The Reds have some injury concerns ahead of this crucial tie with Philippe Coutinho and Divock Origi doubtful with Coutinho having a chance to start while the Belgian is set to be on the bench. Emre Can is likely to miss the encounter in London. Mamadou Sakho and Loris Karius are still unavailable.

For Spurs, Moussa Dembele is still unavailable along with Hugo Lloris. Dele Alli is expected to replace Vincent Janssen in the starting lineup after an impressive cameo against Palace. Both the teams have an English core in their side for tomorrow which will be a pleasing sight for Sam Allardyce. Let's take a look at the predicted Liverpool lineup for tomorrow's encounter against Spurs :

1) Goalkeeper and defenders

Simon Mignolet

The Belgian was named in the Belgium squad announced by new manager, Roberto Martinez. He will start for the Reds as Loris Karius is expected to be out for at least a month. Mignolet has improved his distribution this season but still has to convince the supporters over his abilities.

Nathaniel Clyne

Liverpool's ever present defender was stellar against Burton Albion in the EFL Cup and also provided an assist for Roberto Firmino. He was involved in an error for a goal for Burnley last weekend, and will look to improve his defensive side as he has to look out for the runs of both Christian Eriksen and Danny Rose.

Joel Matip

The new signing made his first start for the Reds in the EFL Cup and was the best defender on the pitch. Klopp is all set to give the Cameroonian his first Premier League start as he has the job to keep Harry Kane quiet.

Dejan Lovren

After receiving a lot of stick in the start of his Liverpool career, Lovren has gone on about his work silently and has made a place for himself in the team permanent. Along with his centre back duties, he has to cover James Milner who is not a natural left back.

James Milner

Milner will start ahead of Alberto Moreno again as he faces his toughest test against the likes of Erik Lamela and Kyle Walker. His versatility has come to Liverpool's rescue as Moreno has time and again proved to be a liability. The Reds have not signed a fullback this window as James Milner is expected to play a big role this season.

2) Midfielders

Jordan Henderson
Henderson will have a tough task on his hands as he could battle with Eric Dier and Victor Wanyama

Jordan Henderson

The captain will start in a defensive midfield role as he had done successfully against Arsenal. He will be up against one of the toughest midfield in the league in Victor Wanyama and Eric Dier and His performance will be key to the reds leaving White Hart Lane without a defeat.

Georginio Wijnaldum

The Dutchman hasn't set the world alight with his performances as a midfield role is not his favoured position. But he needs to deliver good performances regularly if he wants to start regularly. Klopp mentioned flexible football yesterday in his press conference as Wijnaldum is expected to execute his midfield role to perfection.

Adam Lallana

Lallana received a new lease of life when Klopp arrived at the club. With the arrival of Sadio Mane, his place seemed to be under threat. But with the manager favouring 4-3-3 this season, the 28-year-old has been a revelation in the midfield role and scored a delightful team goal against Arsenal.

3) Forwards

Sadio Mane
Sadio Mane has been Liverpool’s best player so far

Philippe Coutinho

Coutinho is a doubt for the Reds with rumours of him being on the bench because of a hamstring injury. But he could be given a run out by Jurgen Klopp as Liverpool need all the creativity they can get their hands on against one of the meanest defences in the league.

Sadio Mane

Just a month after his arrival, Mane has gone on to prove that he can be the main man for the Reds this season. If he continues his good run of form, the £30 million fee that the reds paid for him will look like a bargain. He will be up against Danny Rose and faces a stern against Spurs' defence but his pace will be the key for him and Liverpool.

Roberto Firmino

The Brazilian will lead the line against Spurs as Klopp has utilised him as a forward against the big teams. The Brazilian is a big game player and will look to add to his tally after scoring against Burton Albion.
