EPL Transfer Rumour: Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham monitor Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero

Sergio Aguero
End of the road for Sergio Aguero at Manchester City?

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola’s decision to drop Sergio Aguero during the Premier League match against Everton and for the Champions League game against Barcelona has started speculation concerning the player’s future at the club.

Aguero’s benching has sparked rumours regarding the player’s move out of the club, although if made available the Argentine striker does not lack suitors. Premiere League clubs the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham are keeping a close eye on the player’s situation, and if the forward’s availability is declared then, the trio is set to make a move for the 28-year-old Argentine.

The striker has struggled with injuries throughout his career. However, things are turning out to be exceptionally bad under Guardiola. He has been left out in recent games, and this has to lead to many believing that he has been dropped by Guardiola, rather than being left-out of the squad.

Aguero joined City in July 2011 on a five-year contract from Atletico Madrid in a deal worth £38m. The Argentine international, who, frequently has his runs-in with injuries, has been an important part of Manchester City, contributing a total of 147 goals in 219 appearances, during his time at Etihad. Aguero signed a new five-year contract at Manchester City on August 2014 and hence still has two years and eight months left on his contract, and it is obvious that he will not be coming cheap for his potential suitors.

While the rumour is only based on Aguero being left out of the two games, it makes sense for the clubs to look out for him. The 28-year-old striker will surely be a good addition to the squad, who can contribute with his exceptional goal-scoring ability, excellent passing skills, tactical intelligence and vision. Moreover, he would also welcome a change if things do not turn favourable in the Etihad. While he has been an integral part of City’s successes in recent years, the player’s frequent injuries will be a concern for the clubs vying for his signature.

If reports are to be believed then, Chelsea is monitoring the situation closely and are preparing an offer for the striker. However, the Blues will be facing stiff competition from Arsenal and Spurs for the striker’s signature. While the Argentine striker is not expected to come cheap, if the offer is right City may take a favourable stance to the player’s move out of the club.
