Euro 2020 final set to take place at Wembley or Allianz Arena

Wembley might be the final venue for Euro 2020

UEFA is set to make a decision on the venue for the Euro 2020 final with Wembley and Munich as the final two options.

Earlier, Michel Platini had stated the innovative idea of expanding the tournament’s matches all over Europe.

Euro 2020 will be the first tournament to showcase that idea as 13 countries are set to host the competition with nations like Azerbaijan, Belarus, Israel and Macedonia, who have never hosted a major tournament.

Wales and Scotland have bid for matches in Cardiff and Glasgow respectively while London will host three group-stage games and a match from the last 16 or quarter-finals.

Meanwhile, Turkey, who were also in contention for a major match in the semis or the final have withdrawn from their bid in order to be the sole host of Euro 2024. This has left England and Germany as the two contenders for hosting the final match.

UEFA president Michel Platini said,”We are extremely happy to have received so many bids to host Euro 2020″

“The 60th year anniversary edition of the tournament will be a historic one, with matches played in many European countries.” he added.

The old Wembley Stadium had hosted the Euro 1996 final while the new version has been the venue for 2011 and 2013 Champions League final. Allianz Arena served as the 2012 Champions League final venue.
