Europe awaits American football federation's wishlist

St. John’s (Antigua), April 9 (IANS/CMC) Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) president Michel Platini said they are awaiting a wish list from Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) on priority areas of assistance.

Also the FIFA vice-president, Platini made his disclosure in the wake of UEFA signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with CONCACAF. CONCACAF said he new agreement would provide them technical assistance and support.

“It is a partnership with CONCACAF. We have to find out what are the needs. I am on this visit because I want to see,” said Platini.

Platini’s fact-finding visit has taken him to Antigua following visits to Barbados and Grenada. The 58-year-old former French captain and international midfielder met Barbados Prime Minister Freundel Stuart and Grenada Prime Minister Keith Mitchell as well as football administrators in both countries.

The MoU follows on the heels of a similar one signed between CONCACAF and Confederation of African Football (CAF).

Platini has avoided identifying a favourite for the upcoming FIFA World Cup in Brazil but said the South American teams will be hard to beat in the region.
