Everton fans scared of handing over Premier League title to rivals Liverpool

Everton fans are in a state of unrest as they fear that they might hand their cross town rivals Liverpool the league title.

The blue side of the town have been in a good run of form with nine home victories in all competitions which included the 3-0 demolition of Arsenal last week. The Toffees are currently placed fifth in the table, one point behind the Gunners with a game in hand. Both the Merseyside clubs have enjoyed a lot of success recently with a perfect win tally from their combined last 10 games.

With title contenders Manchester City visiting them for their penultimate fixture of the season, Roberto Martinez’s team have a ‘both sides of a coin’ situation at hand as a win would keep their Champions League qualification hopes alive as well as give their rivals an opportunity to win their 19th league title.

A section of the Goodison Park faithful are willing to see their team lose their Champions league qualification rather than laying the grounds for their Merseyside opponents to win the Premier league.

Everton players have no second thoughts on this matter as they feel it will be special to play in the Champions League since they last managed to qualify in the 2004-05 season. They have worked hard to be in this position under their new boss Martinez who has had a delightful first season

Club’s veteran defender Slyvian Distin who was quite surprised said “We’ve spoken about it with some of the staff and said ‘What if we have to beat City to be in the Champions League but by doing that Liverpool win the league?’ The funny thing is some people would rather we don’t get Champions League as long as they don’t win the league. It’s mad! Personally I’d rather be in the Champions League. You can’t miss a chance for that. It would be amazing for the city if both clubs made it. I think deep down both sets of fans would like it if both clubs were in it.”

Since the Premier League era, both the Merseyside clubs have never made it to the top four together. With Arsenal dropping points in crucial moments,winger Kevin Mirallas feels that the Arsene Wenger’s side may see their run of Champions league qualification end this season.

“There’s so much pressure on Arsenal now because things are in our hands,” he said. “They are almost obliged to be in the Champions League, that’s what they do. They’ve qualified for years, but we are breathing down their necks and we can go fourth if we win our game in hand.”

“It would be great to make the Champions League, for everyone here. Each and every one of us. But we need to keep going and hope it can happen. I have played in that competition at two of my previous clubs and when I signed for Everton my ambition was to achieve it again in my career. That’s what I’m dreaming of now.”
