Reports in Italy suggest that ex-AC Milan manager Massimo Allegri has agreed terms with Tottenham Hotspur to replace Tim Sherwood as manager in the summer.

Sherwood took over from Andre Villas-Boas in late-2013 after he was sacked for another demoralising defeat to a rival. Liverpool’s 5-0 win was the Portuguese’s last game in charge of Spurs.

His replacement started well but their season has tailed off and it is very likely that Sherwood will leave his role as manager in the summer, despite having one year left on his 18-month contract.

Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport claims that Daniel Levy is ready to offer the 46-year-old the opportunity to manage in England by replacing Sherwood at White Hart Lane.

The paper reports that the deal has already been agreed and that Allegri will bring current Milan assistant Mauro Tassotti with him to north London. He was sacked by the Italian club in January after winning just 26.3% of his games earlier this season.

The reports contradict rumours that Spurs had lined up one of Louis van Gaal or Mauricio Pochettino to take over from Sherwood at the end of the season.

Pochettino has always claimed that his happiness at Southampton and expects to continue in that role but van Gaal will be available after leaving his post with the Dutch national team after the World Cup.

Indeed, Ruud Gullit had suggested that a deal for Van Gaal was in the works after Levy met the 62-year-old at his home recently.

Allegri won Serie A with Milan in 2010-11.
