Fabio Capello says Jose Mourinho always ruins his squads after 18 months

Fabio Capello has criticized Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho’s methods of dealing with his players

Former England manager Fabio Capello has blasted Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho and criticized his methods. According to Capello, Mourinho’s clout is on the decline as Chelsea manager, supposedly the same way his managerial reigns have turned out in his previous clubs.

After winning the Premier League title the last time round, Mourinho and Chelsea are undergoing a torrid time this season, with four defeats in eight matches. They lie just a couple of places above the relegation zone and a lot has been said and speculated about Mourinho and his team, although the club has come out openly in support of the manager.

Capello told Fox Sports, “Mou is a great coach but, after a year-and-a-half, he ruins his players. His lads are also psychologically unable to give him what he wants. His cycles tend to last around this period of time.”

“They don't have any rhythm, any aggression. “I had already heard it when he was in Madrid and now we have confirmation in London.

“It is true that Chelsea are paying for some of their absences – like [goalkeeper Thibaut] Courtois – but there have also been tactical errors from the coach, who this year is not preparing for matches very well.”

Belgian goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois is out with a knee injury which he suffered in September and Asmir Begovic has been in goal ever since. Capello also pointed out that Branislav Ivanovic is also a part of the problem and that the players need to step up their game.

To be realistic, Chelsea’s problems lie deeper than just Mourinho and Ivanovic, and they need to find their lost stigma as soon as possible. If at all they want to finish at a respectable place in the league.

Capello was one of the most successful managers around and has won 13 major titles in his stints with AC Milan, Real Madrid and AS Roma. But his career started to decline after he was named the England manager in 2007. Although he helped England qualify for Euro 2012, he later resigned after the FA ousted John Terry as Three Lions’s captain.

He was signed on by Russia as their national team’s manager, but the team’s performance in the Euro 2016 qualifiers was not up to the mark as they managed only two wins out of six matches and was sacked as Russia manager in July.
