Robin van Persie’s much talked about move from Manchester United to Fenerbahce has been completed after the Turkish club officially announced the signing of the Dutch international.

Talks of the Manchester United striker leaving Old Trafford was one of the biggest stories in the summer transfer window. The move is complete with the Fenerbahce twitter page posting a welcome message for the 31-year-old. Van Persie has signed a three-year contract and reportedly will earn £2,40,000-a-week.

Van Persie’s former teammate and Portuguese winger Nani has already made the move from United to Fenerbahce and said that he was looking forward to linking up with the forward again.

“I haven’t had the chance to talk with Robin van Persie yet. But if he comes to Fenerbahce, I am sure that he will be very successful. I know Robin very well and it would be the right decision if Fenerbahce sign him,” Nani told, according to Sky Sports.

The Netherlands all-time record goalscorer will now link up with Nani after the Portuguese winger arrived in Turkey from Sporting Lisbon.

A short spell comes to an end

Van Persie had a dream campaign at United in his debut season, with his 26 goals helping the club clinch their 13th Premier League title. However, following the retirement of the man who brought him to Old Trafford, Sir Alex Ferguson, the Dutchman endured difficult times in the following two seasons with change of managers and injury problems not helping his cause.

In spite of a lack of continuous run in the team, Van Persie still scored a decent 22 goals in 48 league games during that period. However after talks of an apparent fall-out with Louis van Gaal, a move away from United was always on the cards.

What it means to the two clubs

Fenerbahce have been on a spending spree in the transfer window after narrowly missing out on the Super Lig title to Galatasaray last season. Apart from Nani, they have signed Simon Kjaer, Sener Ozbayrakli, Souza and Fernandao on a permanent basis while also bringing in Abdoulaye and Fabiano on loan deals.

United themselves have been quite active in the transfer window. A deal was agreed with Memphis Depay even before the end of the season and the Dutchman has been joined by Matteo Darmian, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Morgan Schneiderlin. However, they do face a shortage of options up front.

Falcao has moved to Chelsea in a similar deal to the one he had at United, while Javier Hernandez is mulling over a move to MLS. That leaves only Wayne Rooney and teenager James Wilson as the recognized strikers, something which might force Van Gaal to look at further options.
