Fernando Torres doesn't want a return to the Spanish National team

El Nino is back

Fernando Torres is experiencing a second wind, back at his boyhood club Atletico Madrid. The striker was very unlucky not to score when he hit the inside of the post against Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

The former Liverpool forward looks like he’s back to his best, doing what he does best tormenting defences with his skill and goals. He suffered a torrid time while he was at Chelsea. In 110 appearances for the club he only managed 20 goals.

This was from a striker who was once considered the best forward in the world during Liverpool days. After a failed loan spell with AC Milan, Simeone decided to bring him back to the Vincente Calderon on a season long loan.

It wasn’t exactly smooth sailing in the beginning, but in the last few months his pace and goals have returned. Many are now predicting the player to be once again part of the national setup.

But Torres himself is not keen on a return. Speaking to AS he said, “I didn't ask for a call, and I don't want one. What I would have liked will stay with me, because I don't want my words to harm the team. I have no problems with Vicente or the technical team.”

The Spanish national side have established themselves as one of the best teams in the world, but ever since David Villa’s departure they have struggled to find a proper replacement. Diego Costa who was on song for Chelsea last season has never been able to adapt himself to Del Bosque’s style of play.

The National team coach himself stated that Torres could be recalled for the Euros. “Yes, of course. Torres is a striker who have given us so much over the years - he's taken part in the last three major trophy triumphs and we hold him in great esteem.”

This season Torres has scored 9 goals in 26 appearances but most of them have come in the last few months. Diego Costa has only gotten 2 more than his countryman at Chelsea so it is a tight competition.

Torres is not thinking about the future and is completely focused on living in the present and helping his team. “I live in the present. The important thing is to live in the moment you're in.”

Torres is also not worried about who Atletico might face in the final if they go through. “We don't have a favourite. We want to be there, we don't care about anyone else.”
