India moved up seven spots to 145 in the FIFA Rankings according to the latest release, which came out on Thursday. Wim Koeverman’s side share that rank with Singapore. India also jumped three places to 25th in the Asian Rankings.

The SAFF Championship 2013 runners-up played their first match of this calendar year on March 5, which was a FIFA match date. They came from behind to hold lower-ranked neighbours Bangladesh 2-2 at the Nehru Stadium in Fatorda, Margao, Goa.

India’s position improved by two spots in March but despite the further rise in April, they remain the second-placed team in the subcontinent behind Afghanistan who are now 122nd.

The next FIFA match dates are in September and the India senior side may not be in action due to the participation of the under-23 team in the Asian Games while the Indian Super League is also scheduled to take place that time. It remains to be seen whether the seniors play any further matches this calendar year.

The next release of the FIFA Rankings is scheduled for May 8.
