FIFA wants India to host 2017 FIFA Under-17 World Cup, but India doesn't?

The decision on the host nation for the 2017 FIFA Under-17 World Cup is set to be taken by FIFA next month with the world governing body wanting India to host the 2017 edition, but with government assurances still missing, the question is if India really wants to host such a tournament?

Last week while in Zurich I spoke to a number of FIFA officials with one of the topics of discussion being the 2017 FIFA Under-17 World Cup and if India would host it. From my informal conversations I can surely state that FIFA wants India to host the 2017 edition, even in the current scenario and instability within Indian football.

But as has been stated by different All India Football Federation officials, there are still Government of India assurances pending or missing without which the AIFF cannot hand in a final application bid, which has been done by at least three other nations.

India has a week to get their act together before the final bid application period ends, but will the government do what is good and a necessity for Indian football?

We, the football fans, will sadly have to wait and see.
