Former Barcelona star Ronaldinho picks Neymar as his 'heir'

Neymar has scored 8 league goals in 9 appearances for Barcelona this season

Barcelona legend Ronaldinho Gaucho has revealed Neymar Jr as the heir to his standing at the club and he has insisted that he will rewrite history, as per the reports on Marca. Neymar has stamped his authority at the Camp Nou in the absence of Lionel Messi and Ronaldinho believes his compatriot will one day win the coveted Ballon d’Or award.

The 23-year-old was signed from Santos in the summer of 2013 and he has become nothing but sensational at Catalunya ever since his arrival. Neymar enjoyed a treble-winning campaign with his side last season and he flourished alongside fellow South Americans Luis Suarez and Messi, forming a formidable attacking partnership which saw a total of 122 goals scored by the trio in all competitions.

The Brazil captain has carried the sublime form from the last term in the absence of Messi by scoring or assisting 14 of the 19 goals scored by the Catalan side this season. Neymar and Suarez are already looking to be a fan favourite at the club. Delighted with his phenomenal displays for Barcelona, two of his countrymen Roberto Carlos and now Ronaldinho have heaped praise on him. Carlos had even claimed earlier this year that Neymar is better than Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Despite Messi, being the main man at the Camp Nou, Ronaldinho has insisted that it is just a matter of time before Neymar gets his hands on the prestigious Ballon d’Or award and make history with the club.

“Yes, he's a great player and he's certainly going to make history.” he said in an interview.

“Neymar will repeat what other Brazilians have done before him.”

Ronaldinho promises to make a comeback next year

Ever since he left Barcelona for Italian giants AC Milan during the summer of 2008, his career has declined rapidly. Ronaldinho recently left Brazilian side Fluminese earlier this season, after admitting the club that he felt incapable of sustaining his form and fitness prompting rumours of retirement. However, the former Paris Saint-Germain star has insisted the wants to continue playing the game and promises to come back to action next year.

“I'll play again next year, but I don't know where.” he said.

“Right now I'm just focused on getting some rest and enjoying my holiday. I really need it.”
