Former Chelsea winger Florent Malouda compares Thierry Henry and Didier Drogba

Legendary strikers : Henry and Drogba

Former Chelsea winger Florent Malouda has played alongside some of the best players in the history of the game, least of all legendary forwards Thierry Henry and Didier Drogba.

In an exclusive interview with SportsKeeda, Malouda spoke about the two frontmen. When asked to compare the two, Malouda said “I don’t know. I won’t pick one because one has stopped playing and the other is still playing. I have respect for both of them – Didier is my friend and I have played with Thierry for the national team. I’m really close to both of them and they both inspire me. But I have played more with Drogba at Chelsea.

He also went on to say that while the players have a different style of playing, both would warrant a place in a fantasy team chosen by him. “Their profiles are different like it is with Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, so It is difficult to choose. But one thing that I’m sure about is that if I pick my World XI, I will have them both where Drogba will be the striker and Henry will play just behind him.”

Malouda also spoke about his career in the Premier League, professing his love for his former club. When quizzed whether his time in England was the best period in his career, he said “Yes! I think I was at the peak of my club and national team career because I won titles.”

“At Chelsea, we won the best league in the world. I was also a French international who was playing all types of competitions like the World Cup, Euros, and it was always very intense. I had so much pleasure as I played in some of the best stadiums in the world at a competitive level. So yes, it was the peak of my career. My last game was the Champions League final and I have only good memories of my time as a blue.”

Malouda then spoke about how he hoped Chelsea would get back on track following a shaky last season, saying “It was difficult to see Chelsea struggling last season and I’m sad again that we have recently lost to Liverpool and Arsenal. But as a former player, it is difficult for me to comment. I want to see them play well this season under the new manager and not produce a repeat of last season.”
