Frank Lampard will take stock on his England future after the World Cup

Frank Lampard will reevaluate his future as an England international after the World Cup.

The 36-year-old midfielder will wear the captains armband during the Three Lions’ final Group D clash against Costa Rica, as Steven Gerrard drops to the bench.

With rumours abound that the Chelsea legend is set to call time on his England career, Lampard has mirrored Gerrard’s sentiments, stating that he’ll wait until the quadrennial tournament’s denouement before he takes stock on his options.

“I don’t know whether I will [retire] or not,” he told BBC Radio Five Live.

“I am going to get home and make a decision at that point because I have my own [club] future to sort out as well.

“This is not the time and place to make the decision. Sometimes when you are away for a month you don’t always come up with the right judgement.”

With 105 caps, Lampard is tied eighth (alongside Billy Wright) in the list of England’s most-capped players of all time. If the former West Ham man takes to the field on Tuesday at the Estádio Mineirão, he’ll equal the appearance count of 1966 World Cup winner Bobby Charlton.

Meanwhile, BBC Sport pundit <Mark Lawrenson has questioned Hodgson’s decision to field Liverpool duo Henderson and Gerrard as a midfield two--.

The former Reds defender thinks that the pair are much better suited to the midfield three they were employed in throughout the Premier League season just gone.Frank Lampard has 105 caps for England, the eighth most of any Three Lions player in history.
