German record champions Bayern Munich dropped their first points in the Bundesliga as Freiburg’s substitute Nicolas Hoefler marked a late equaliser for a 1-1 draw.

Nicolas Hoefler’s equaliser stunned wasteful Bayern Munich in the dying minutes of the match to secure one point on home soil against the German giants Tuesday, reports Xinhua.

From the starting whistle Bayern looked disorganised due to seven changes in the starting team by coach Pep Guardiola. Consequently, courageous Freiburg were able to work out the first threatening attempt through Oliver Sorg who tested Bayern keeper Manuel Neuer.

As the match progressed, Bayern gained a foothold into the match but yet Toni Kroos and Xherdan Shaqiri failed to beat Freiburg’s goalkeeper Oliver Baumann with their efforts.

Despite Bayern’s lack of ideas they were up to break the deadlock with 33 minutes into the game through Xherdan Shaqiri. The Swiss midfielder volleyed home a cross at the back post following a cross by Thomas Mueller into the box.

In the sequel, Bayern had a bunch of opportunities to add another goal to their lead but all of them remained unused. Thus, Freiburg punished the visitors for their wastefulness when Hoefler volleyed home a cross by Sebastian Freis from very close range to restore parity three minutes before the final whistle following a counter attack. The German record champions pressed frenetically for the lead but still all of their efforts went in vain.

It is the second draw in a row for Freiburg meanwhile Bayern dropped the first points after three consecutive wins.

The opener of the fourth round was forwarded as the Bavarians face Chelsea at the UEFA Supercup Friday.

The following matches are scheduled for Saturday: Monchengladbach host Bremen, Hannover see Mainz, Wolfsburg encounter newly promoted Berlin, Nuremberg meet Augsburg, struggling Hamburg face newly promoted Braunschweig and struggling Schalke clash Leverkusen.
