Gary Neville: "I would like to manage Manchester United, but don’t overthink it"

Gary Neville

Sky Sports pundit and former England and Manchester United full -back Gary Neville has admitted that he would one day like to manage his country or former club, but hinted that his ambition will not be fulfilled any time soon.

Taking part in a one word reply Twitter question and answer session, prolific tweeter Neville answered in the affirmative to a question asking if he would want to manager United or England in the future.

The former right-back, who has carved out a solid reputation as a pundit in the period since his retirement, is currently part of Roy Hodgson’s England set-up, and admitted that he would want to become a manager one day.

However he did distance himself from any immediate movement into management when responding to the inevitable media furore around his comments, telling his followers not to read into the comments too much.

Manchester United have struggled this season under new boss David Moyes, leading to inevitable speculation over the Scot’s role at the club and perhaps sparking the question to Neville.

Last season’s champions are still in European competition, with a Champions League tie against Bayern Munich to come, but look likely to have to settle for the Europa League next season.

With Europe’s secondary competition looming, Neville was also asked whether United would want to be in the competition, which many view as a distraction, at all, replying that they would.
