Barcelona centre back Gerard Pique signed a new 5 year deal with the Spanish giants on Sunday. The new deal will keep him at the club till 2019.
Pique is the only senior defender at the club after the departure of club hero Carles Puyol. The club is currently short on defenders with only Marc Bartra and Martin Montoya as the other options in the first team.
After signing the contract he said, “Knowing that I could live out my career here is a big boost for me”
“I hope we can enjoy as many successes as we have had already.”
He also spoke about new manager Luis Enrique, “I am very excited. In his press conference he showed that he’s very clear about his ideas. He knows this place well and I think he’ll do a lot of good for us.
“I am really looking forward to working under him.”
His also spoke about the club: “FC Barcelona has to be at the top, winning titles and feeling important among the elite of European and world football.
“We have a team, and a coach. We have all the ingredients to get back where we belong”.
