Steven Gerrard hopes to return to Liverpool ‘sooner than later.’

Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard has said that it will not be long before he returns to Anfield in some capacity or the other. The midfielder, who is currently with Major League Soccer (MLS) outfit LA Galaxy, spoke about his inherent desire to come back home.

Speaking at an event for LA Galaxy fans, Gerrard said that it would not be long before he returns home among his people. “I will be going home at some point.”

“I don’t want to start any unnecessary rumours. I’m really happy where I am at the moment. But I’m sure somewhere down the line I will represent Liverpool football club.”

Gerrard made over 700 appearances for Liverpool in his nearly two-decade career at the Merseyside club, winning several titles including two FA Cups, one UEFA Champions League and one UEFA Cup.

He also spoke about how he misses the cold weather in Liverpool, his friends and family, and watching the Reds play. “I miss my friends and my family. I miss a bit of cold weather. I miss going to the games. I spent 35 years in Liverpool. Liverpool’s my home, it always will be. This is my second home for a short period of time.”

“Sooner rather than later I will return to where I'm comfortable with my people - and that's Liverpool."

Gerrard has never hidden desire to return

Despite being in Los Angeles for quite a while now, Gerrard has been pretty vocal about how he wants to return Liverpool and would be up for a coaching job at the club. Not long ago, he expressed how it would be great to collaborate with former Liverpool teammate and friend Jamie Carragher to help the Reds.

“I’ve imagined it a lot. Jamie’s knowledge of the game is superb. I know the amount of time and effort he puts into the work that he does now, also how much he loved the game when I played with him.”

“I think we’ll both work for the club again at some point during the rest of our lives. When that will be, I don’t know. Will that be together? I’m not sure. When I retire from football I am going to be available for people to offer me roles if they feel I’m one of the candidates. Would I go for another role in the game if any offers (from Liverpool) didn’t come my way? Yeah I would,” he said.

Liverpool, currently, sit 8th in the Premier League table with three games remaining and will play in the Europa League final against Spanish side Sevilla on May 18th in Basel. A win in the Europa League final will hand the Reds a Champions League spot.
