Gianni Infantino, president of the World football governing body FIFA, on Wednesday, expressed confidence that French and Russian authorities will ensure security during the UEFA Euro 2016 in France and the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.

Infantino emphasised that safety is "undoubtedly" a principal issue, but he is confident that all necessary security measures will be taken in the European Championship, according to Russian media, reports Efe.

The Swiss also noted that he is "absolutely confident" that the Russian authorities will do their best so that the "highest levels" of security will be guaranteed in the World Cup, to be held in Russia from June 14 to July 15, 2018.

Infantino made his remarks during a special session of the Russian Football Union (RFU) board to review preparations for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

He ruled out a possible change of the 2018 World Cup venue from Russia, as some countries have claimed there were irregularities when Russia and Qatar were elected to host the classy tournaments in 2018 and 2022.
