Sporting Club de Goa practice session

If the Goa Super League is all about fighting for Goan football supremacy then on recent form it doesn’t get any bigger than this as the current I-league leaders Salgaocar FC get ready to go toe-to-toe with the current Goa Super League leaders Sporting Clube de Goa at Duler ground in Mapusa on Tuesday afternoon. The kickoff is at 4pm.

Sporting Goa is currently leading the table with 25 points from 10 games, while Salgaocar FC is occupying fourth position with 18 points from the same number of games and if Salgaocar want to remain in the title race then a victory against Sporting Goa is a must.

In their respective opening Goa Super League matches, Sporting Goa overcame Sesa Football Academy 2-0, while Salgaocar FC brushed aside Churchill Brothers 4-1.

Since Sporting Goa Coach Oscar Bruzon has taken over the reins 11 months ago, the Flaming Oranje has maintained a 100% record against Salgaocar FC, defeating them on no less than five occasions.

In last season’s Goa Super league the Flaming Oranje triumphed 4-1 and also 2-1 in the semi finals of the Goa Super Cup. In the I-league they did the double over the Men in Green defeating them 2-0 and 3-1. In this season’s Goa Pro League first-leg, Sporting Goa won by a 2-1 scoreline.

This season it is mercurial Liberian-born Australian centre-forward Boima Jerry Karpeh who has been firing on all cylinders for Sporting Goa with an amazing 15 goals (11 in Goa Pro league / 4 in I-League) to his credit, while Salgaocar FC has relied on the striking prowess of Scotsman Darryl Duffy who is the joint second highest scorer in the I-League with 6 goals, while Frenchman Claude Gnakpa was on fire in their last game against Churchill Brothers as he scored all four goals.
