Sporting Clube de Goa training session

In a repeat of last season’s Super Cup final, Sporting Club de Goa will take on Sesa Football Academy in the Goa Pro League at the Duler ground in Mapusa on Tuesday afternoon. This is the final match of the first-leg of the Gjagoa Pro League. Both teams have already done enough to secure a place in the top five and have booked their places in the Super League.

As the points are carried forward into the second stage of the league, there is still all to play for. Churchill Brothers SC is currently leading the table with 23 points from nine matches, while Sporting Clube de Goa has 19 points going into this game. Dempo SC are third with 17 points, followed by Salgaocar FC who have 15 points and Sesa Football Academy are currently in fifth position with 13 points.

When the two clubs met last season on the opening day, Sesa FA defeated Sporting Goa 2-1. In the second encounter Sporting Goa came back from three goals down to win an amazing encounter 4-3. The third meeting between the two sides was the GFA Super Cup final in which Sporting Goa grabbed victory in the last minute thanks to a well executed Victorino Fernandes strike.

Sporting Clube de Goa will be missing the services of defender Jagdeep Singh who pulled up a thigh strain in training, but the Flaming Oranje Coach Oscar Bruzon has plenty of handy replacements at his disposal.

“I feel this game is an opportunity to hand a start to one or two of our fringe players who have been knocking on the door of the first team for quite some time and are very eager to prove their worth, although we will be approaching this encounter with the same focus as always,” stated Oscar.
