Mario Gotze claim Marco Reus has always wanted a Manchester United move

Manchester Evening News understands that Marco Reus is being targeted by Manchester United as a possible marquee signing, and Shinji Kagawa could be used as a make-weight to facilitate the deal.

This ties in with today’s story in The Mirror that David Moyes will be handed a “£200 milllion war chest” in an attempt to re-establish United as a challenger for the Premier League title.

In a turn of events that will likely infuriate Jurgen Klopp, ex-Borussia Dortmund playmaker Mario Gotze revealed Reus’s prior intention to make the switch to United.

“When I was at Borussia Marco (Reus) wanted a move to Man United, he hasn’t changed,” Gotze is reported as saying.

Signing Marco Reus would be a real statement of intent from United. With nine goals in his last eight appearances and 19 goals for the season, Reus would inject a much-needed spark into United’s floundering attack.

United’s form against the stronger opposition this year has been abysmal, so signing a player with a proven track record against the top clubs (including two goals against Real Madrid in the Champions League Quarter Final and one against Bayern Munich last week in Dortmund’s shock victory) would be a smart move from Moyes.

To make this deal a reality, United are reportedly willing to offer the German a lucrative £200,000-a-week contract.

Of Marco Reus’s 14 goals this season, he’s scored 7 with each foot.
